trainingNVQ’s are qualifications, which demonstrate a learner’s competence at work. The training is mainly on the job and NVQ assessment recognises an individual's performance at work with a nationally recognised qualification.

They are available to all ages, at any career stage and no previous qualifications are necessary. As the skills are assessed through work-based evidence, there are no 'end of unit' tests or exams. Certification is based purely on evidence of the learner’s competence.

An NVQ comprises several units, which can be tailored to reflect the job that an employee is carrying out, and the skills they need to perform. Each unit is made up of a number of national occupational standards that cover all the main aspects of a job.

NVQ’s are completely flexible and built to accommodate the learner and their employer to ensure that the learning and assessment fit in with the working day. By demonstrating a commitment to employee development, many companies who support NVQ’s see a reduction in staff turnover and sickness levels, in addition to a more positive and committed workforce. As NVQ’s are a competence based qualification they are useful to boost the confidence of employees with few or no formal qualification, as they have no tests or exams.
